What If?

I write blogs because I literally lie awake at night wondering what I can do to have an impact on this world.  So many thoughts run in and out of my head and the clock continues to tick away.  Soon the sun rises on another day and the daily routine begins.  When the day closes with another sunset my mind begins to waken.

For the first time ever I’m going to let you into my mind (blog factory as I’m starting to call it) and give you a glimpse at what is constantly taking place there.  Now I know this may not be as exciting as Charlie’s Chocolate Factory or Santa’s Toy Shop, but in any event I’m going to take you where no one has ever gone.  A place where questions are in abundance, hope is at an all-time high, and passion flows like a river.  You are going to want to check this out.  Keep reading.

Enter my mind

How can we make this world better?  What if media stations all over the world could only air positive news?  Negative news could only be aired if it served a purpose to protect the public.  What if the lottery gave three-hundred people a million dollars instead of giving a giant prize of three-hundred million to one person?  What if they gave a half-million to six-hundred people?  What if we all decided that the Lottery could give the three-hundred million to a charity?

What if we stopped competing with other countries?  Instead we lived in a world of interdependency.  You do what you do best and I will do what I do best.  I will benefit from you and you from me.  No more worries about who has more or who is stronger, and certainly no more of the thinking that “my dad can beat up your dad.”

What if educators, nurses, armed forces, and people in human services made what professional athletes made?  What if they all could declare free-agency?  What if we valued education and our children as our world’s number one asset?  What if people could just accept that fact that there is more than one way to add, subtract, multiply, and divide?  Maybe we would no longer see math problems on Facebook.  Maybe if we treated human service positions with the dignity they deserve we would not have such a critical shortage?

What if we stopped judging people and accepted people for who they are?  Why can’t we leave the judging to the one that said he will judge us one day?    What if we saw people from the inside out rather than the opposite? What if everyone could feel like a someone?

What if we treated mental illness with the same efforts we treat other major diseases? What if guns had a sensor on the trigger.  The gun would not fire if it sensed anger or hatred?  Would this even work?  Side Note – This is my innovative mind and often times I think of really radical ideas without putting in much thought.  But heck, with technology now days the gap between thoughts and reality continues to shrink.

What if we all realized that we don’t have to be perfect?  Perfection is un-

attainable.  What if we all strived for it however?  What if we could all be at peace with who we are?  What if we could all be at peace with whom others are?  What if we were all happy?  What if we realized we all have the ability to contribute?  We can all be the best at something. What if your kindness and empathy brought out the best in others?

What if our politicians would hug it out?  What if we all hugged it out?  What if we started the “hug it out challenge?”  Post a hugging selfie with someone.  The goal to raise awareness for love, kindness, compassion, and appreciation.  What if the “hug it out challenge” could go viral like the “Ice-Bucket Challenge?”  What if this challenge ensured that everyone in America received a hug?

What if common sense became common again?

Exit My Mind

I don’t sleep well at night.  I’m committed to making the world a better place.  I get to do that as an educator and blogger, but too many people are not being reached.  We can make the world a better place.  We can flood the world with positives and eventually drown out most of the negatives.  We can hug it out.  We can post “hugging selfies.”  We can turn our thoughts into reality and we can start today.

Now if you will excuse me – I’m going to go take a nap.

When in doubt – hug it out. #HugitOut
