Words do Hurt

I think my emotions have peaked.  I no longer can just sit back and just let things be the way they are. By failing to act we become part of the problem.

It’s not ok to publicly demean somebody.  It’s not ok to privately demean somebody.  It’s not ok to call somebody names.

I don’t care who you are. I don’t care your title, position, or financial status. I don’t care if your an athlete, the president, or homeless. Nobody has the right to be demeaning to another. You don’t have the right to publicly or privately cut people down.

You do however have a right to disagree.  You do have a right to speak for change. You do have the right to stand for what you believe in.

America isn’t and never will be perfect. Some will spoil it for others. Some will do harm.  Many will do good. Don’t try to eliminate hate with hate. Only love can eliminate hate. We all matter…everyone of us.  The good, the bad, the happy, the sad. We all matter.

Don’t cut people down..build them up. Don’t sit and throw a fit, stand and make change. Don’t hate; instead love. Don’t worry; instead pray.  In fact, pray for everyone.  Pray for the criminal and pray for the victim. Just pray, and pray often.

Infuse kindness into this world. We hear the negative because the negative sells.  Stop buying it. Turn the tv off.  Shut off the internet. Talk with your neighbor. Love your neighbor. Help your neighbor.

I’m an educator and when the world acts one way how can I expect my students to act another? When people in power or of celebrity status criticize others, how can I expect my students to not do the same? Believe me, that type of behavior is not my expectation. Schools can teach values and morals for 7 hours a day but if children see the opposite for the next 17 hours we will not advance as a society.

Parents, students, celebrities, communities, humans…infuse kindness into this world. Stand for non-violent change. Don’t demean others. Celebrate differences.

The phrase “stick and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me,” couldn’t be further from the truth.  Yes, sticks and stones may break bones, but words can crush your spirit, and drive you into deep depression.

What we SAY matters. What we DO matters.

Let’s say good and do good. Let’s stop this nonsense. Let’s make common sense common again.   We can eliminate hate by multiplying love.  That’s not just a fancy saying. It’s true. Let’s get to it.
